Security
Tropicana Student Living is committed to maintaining high standards for safety and security. Six of our professional staff live at Trop with their families during the summer and there is a manager on duty 24/7. The Sheriff’s Department or the Isla Vista Foot Patrol will respond for law enforcement at Tropicana. For an emergency, call 911 immediately. Please report suspicious individuals or activity to the front desk by calling (805) 968-4319.
Security cameras are located throughout public areas. Tropicana staff patrols the inside and outside of our buildings nights and weekends. It is every guest’s responsibility to maintain the security of Tropicana, such as keeping doors securely locked and protecting keys from loss. It is also important for you to close your suite or apartment door and lock your windows at night. For safety as well as security reasons, screens must remain on windows at all times. Doors must not be propped open. Tropicana has quiet hours every day from 10:00 pm to 8:00 am. We ask our guests to respect quiet hours and to be courteous to their neighbors. We encourage all guests to take responsibility for personal safety. Please use a buddy or escort system for safe travel at night, whether out jogging, walking to and from campus, or going to Isla Vista for a late night snack. Do not walk alone at night.
Tropicana enforces local and state drinking laws. In California the legal age for drinking is 21. Guests over 21 may drink in the privacy of their apartments. Tropicana does not tolerate illegal drugs; drug violations are enforced by direct notification of police.
